Hi there!
I hope your day is off to a smooth start!:)
As per request, I wanted to share with you guys tips on how to get back into working out…. when you have been off of the grid for awhile.
It’s easy to find excuses to not get a workout in. Then after a long time, it’s gets harder and harder to start again.
This is why I have 6 Steps for you!
(1) Sign up for a gym that is not exactly popular.
When I first started working out, I went to a very small and practically empty YMCA near my home. By doing this, I didn’t feel judged, nor did I ever feel intimidated. I was able to workout, and learn how to use machines without feeling out of my element. If I would have first signed up at a gym like Lifetime, I probably would have been discouraged and not have gone back. Choosing this gym was one of the best decision I could have made because
(2) Remember, it doesn’t matter how fast you are going, you’re still doing more than the person on the couch.
This is by far one of my most favorite quotes in the world! This is because when you’re first getting back into working out, you cannot get discouraged by anyone else around you. For example, the girl “beasting” it up next to you, you have no idea what she has gone through to get to that point. Even take me for an example! If you see anywhere that I said I ran for 45 minutes after working out, it’s because I have been working out and running for almost 7 years!!! When I first began, it killed me to even run for 10 minutes. You do you, and try your hardest. Evert little bit is more than you were doing before.
(3) Motivate yourself with new gear
I feel like I always say this, but it’s because it works! Whether it be new shoes, a heart rate monitor, or an outfit you feel fab in, it will motivate you to go to the gym. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can check out all of my favorite workout buddies here.
(4) Download the My Fitness Pal App
Guys, this is one of the greatest apps in the world. I have been using it for many years and it really helps with tracking what you are eating. It’s kind of like a food diary, but better! It’s also a huge wakeup call as to how much you are eating in a day, as compared to how much you should actually be eating in a day.
(5) Do It By Yourself
Confused? Let me explain.
I know this completely opposite of almost everything you have ever read, but as someone who has made the lifestyle change, this is the most important tip of them all. This is a decision and a change that you have to want to make for yourself. Nobody else can do it for you. The reason I am against the buddy system, is because your buddy may not want it as bad as you do. You do not want to start relying on a friend to go to the gym with you, because when they stop going, you will most likely start to reason with yourself why you should stop going too.
If working out & living a healthy lifestyle is already apart of your friends daily routine, then it’s completely different! You want someone who will for sure motivate you.
(6) Pencil It In
Look at your calendar and pencil in each day when you can fit your workout in. Have a dinner party Thursday evening? Welp, you better pencil in working out in the morning! Truly can’t find a time on Tuesday to workout? Then make sure you have written in your planner that you will workout Sunday instead.
Everyday is completely different, so there is absolutely no way that you can work out at the same time everyday. But my looking at your planner and penciling your workouts in one day at a time, will make it easier for you to make it to the gym!
Do you like these tips?? Let me know!
xo,
Lauren
