Hi guys, Happy Monday!!
To start you guys off this week, I wanted to share a few things I have added into my night time routine. For the past two months, my insomnia has been gnarly but it has recently gotten so much better due to my new routine, so I had to share it with you guys incase some of you have trouble sleeping too!
To be honest, I don’t think I ever really believed in insomnia, until I started to experience it. It would be time to go to sleep and I would be exhausted. My head would hit the pillow, and then insomnia would hit me like BAM. It’s as if my mind would explode with lists, problems, worries, and past conversations.
I would stay up until 3:00 a.m. trying everything under the moon to go to sleep. To avoid the lighting, I would read an actual book as opposed to on my iPad, I would drink the Sleepy Time Tea, take melatonin, mediate, do breathing exercises…you name it, I did it.
After two weeks of this, I was SO OVER IT. So what did I do? Research of course. First things first, I researched food.
Basically, I found out everything I eat produces energy, which causes insomnia. So FML. Clearly I was not about to stop eating – lol, so I made it very important to stop eating before 8:00 p.m. I know that I go to sleep around 10:30. So by eating before 8:00 p.m. it gives my body time to process everything.
Next, I found that using a lavender lotion as opposed to other lotions will calm you down and put you into the mind set for sleep. The scent of lavender has been proven to relax you and as well as to help you sleep better. So now right before I get into bed, I lather on lavender lotion. I found this one at Whole Foods.
Then, I make sure I drink my RELAXED tea, every. single. night. I originally was really interested in this tea, but opted for this one because I knew I could get it at my local Whole Foods.
I swear you guys, this tea has magic powers. I promise this is not sponsored. It just crazy works. Like I told you earlier, I always would drink the Original Sleepy Time Tea when I would try to calm down, but it honestly just didn’t really work for me. So when I tried the RELAXED tea and saw this difference, it was honestly a game changer. I also stopped putting honey in my night tea because honey spikes your blood sugar, which keeps you awake. So, no more honey for me.
Then last but not least, and not pictured, I have been wearing this night mask, from last weeks post, literally every night. I found out, that if your mind notices any sort of light when you are a asleep, it triggers your brain to be awake. So this night mask just makes everything that much darker. Plus, it’s super cute!
So if you are like me and have been having a hard time sleeping, try these steps, and let me know if it works as well for you, as it does for me!
Have a great Monday 🙂
xo,
Lauren
