Last week, you all filled out this beginning of the year survey. Which I have to brag on for a second because yall’s response rate and responses in general, were absolutely everything. Seriously, ya’ll are rock stars. I promise I’m taking everything you all said into account and will do my best to bring you all the content you asked for!
Any who, not to call out one response or anything, but someone did say something along the lines of that most of my outfits seem to be pretty basic/neutral and that while they love everything I post, they wanted to see me kind of step out of my comfort zone when it came to my wardrobe. While initially, I probably got a little bit defensive for like 2.5 seconds, in the end, I couldn’t help but be like…. well yeah…that’s kind of me?! Not that I think I am basic, but I mean, I have always been very simple when it came to my style. As in, I love dressing in more classic pieces, I prefer neutrals tones over everything and I will choose my diamond studs over flashy Kendra Scotts any day. That’s just my style.
So over the weekend, while shopping with my sweet friend Gabby, when she threw this wild MinkPink Drama Queen Top in my dressing room, I couldn’t help but initially feel overwhelmed. Like, EARTH TO GABBY!!! You KNOW I don’t wear things like this!! But still, I tried it on. It was bright, it was dramatic and totally not me, but I loved it. As I starred at myself in the dressing room, I couldn’t help but think of that one comment from my survey. I thought, “Is this the kind of thing that this person wanted to see? Is this dramatic enough? Is this me stepping out of my comfort zone and is this what my readers want to see?!” As I sat there contemplating and continuing to stare at the blouse, in my head, I knew it wasn’t me. It’s not a staple and it’s not my norm. It’s not what people would expect me to wear. But, I liked what I saw. The shirt made me feel confident and sexy and while I probably won’t buy a shirt like this for a really long time, I loved the feeling of stepping out of my zone at that exact moment. So to the girl (or boy) who asked me to start doing more with my wardrobe, thank you. Because without out you, I would not have bought my new favorite shirt.
So what did I take away from all of this? Well, I’ve realized that it’s okay to be basic. It’s also okay overly flashy, if you will. It’s just about what makes you feel good and about what makes you feel your best in what you’re wearing. It’s about what makes you feel the most confident at that exact moment.
Any who, I hope you guys enjoyed my kind of pointless, very long ramble, on me deciding if I wanted to buy a shirt or not over the weekend -lol. But hey, what can I say, it’s just me being a little dramatic.
