Hello, hello! Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. We left last Thursday to go to Austin for two of our best friends wedding and had the most fun weekend! I know I was a little bit MIA all weekend, hence not having a post up on Friday, but I just really needed a break from everything and wanted to enjoy the weekend without worrying about posting my outfit or everything we were doing lol. Colton was the Best Man, his whole family was there and a ton of our friends were there that I hadn’t seen, in what feels like years. There was so much going on all weekend that I really didn’t have time to be on social media and I loved it.
I know this kind of sounds hypocritical of me, with social media being my main power source of the blog, but I’m also human. Recently I have felt like time has been going by way too fast and that I haven’t been living in the moment. Not because I’m not doing things that I love, but because I’m not present when doing them. To fix this, I have been trying really hard to put my phone down, schedule out my posts and keep my phone in my purse. My favorite part of my day recently has been my afternoon walks with Bentley because I have made it a super no social media zone. Where I’ll put on music, walk my pup and really focus on what’s around me. I’ve made sure to do this at dinner time and on car rides with Colton as well, because there is nothing worse than sitting in 3 hour car ride with someone and them just sitting on their phone the entire time. I’ll also do what I did this weekend at least once a month. It gives me clarity and almost makes me feel rejuvenated.
So in honor of that, here are five reasons why taking a break from social media might be a good thing for you.
- To Gain Full Focus: Social media is incredibly distracting. Instead of focusing on what you are doing, what’s around you or who you are with, you’re immersed in your phone and worrying about what everyone else is doing. By putting your phone down, you’re able to be in the moment, giving youe full focus. It’s all about being present.
- Mental Clarity: When I put my phone down for a period of time, for example a whole weekend, I have huge sense of mental clarity. Sometimes, after staring at my phone for too long, everything else around me starts to feel cloudy. This all goes back to focus. When you stop putting all of your attention on something so negative, you start to see everything around you.
- To Be Happier: When you are not constantly scrolling through your feed, fixating on what everyone else is doing, you’ll find yourself being happier. On social media, you see everyone’s highlights and their best moments, but you’re not seeing the behind the scenes footage. It can make you feel like what you are doing isn’t good enough and leaves you playing the comparison game, which is never fun, nor healthy. By putting the phone down, you will find a sense of relief and joy in whatever you are doing.
- Quality Time With Others: Like I mentioned above, there is nothing worse than taking a car ride with someone and them sitting on their phone the entire time. The same thing goes for going to lunch with a friend. When you are focusing on social media, your not giving your all nor the respect to the people that you are with.
- To Be More Grateful: If you’re alive, you are healthy, have food on the table and have friends and family that love you, then you have more than a million things to be grateful for. You’ll start to realize that someone else’s life across the country isn’t any grater than yours. Instead of being envious of everything that you do not have, you will start to be grateful for everything that you do have.
Like I said above, I’m not trying to be hypocritical, I am just trying to be real 🙂
I hope you all have a great week!
xo,
Lauren
