Happy Friday Loves!
As you are reading this, we are probably en route to our next destination. Deciding to still go on this trip was one of the best things Colton and I could have ever done. I mean, despite the fact that we didn’t exactly have an option due to most of the hotels being non-refundable but….that’s not the point! The point is, we needed this. After the wedding being super postponed, we were on a super low but looking forward to this trip kept us looking forward.
This is my second time in Switzerland and Colton’s first. Last time we were traveling in Europe, we had two different layovers in Zurich and Colton had been dying to come back ever since. My junior year in college, I did a traveling study abroad trip and Switzerland was a stop on our trip. I fell in love with the country and knew I always wanted to come back.
When we started brainstorming for Honeymoon destinations, we knew that we didn’t want to do the beach or anything tropical. Not because we don’t love those type of destinations (because we do!!!), it was just more of the fact that we were supposed to be getting married in October and going to the beach in October just didn’t seem super appealing. Then we didn’t want to do Italy, because we had done that two summers before when we got engaged! So, we decided on a few other options, starting our trip in Lucerne, Switzerland!
We left Tuesday morning, traveled for 14+ hours and landed in Zurich, Switzerland at 8:30 a.m. We then hopped on a 45 minute train to travel to Lucerne! Which, btw – was super easy! The whole US really needs to catch onto the whole “train” thing. The train station was literally inside the airport, so it was super easy!
Once we got to Lucerne, we were able to check in and get into our hotel room immediately – which was so nice! If you follow me on Snapchat (lauren_smith6) then you know we have the most gorgeous room with a balcony over looking the lake. It is everything and we were so not expecting it! For those of you asking, we stayed at The Grand Hotel. It’s a fantastic hotel. It’s Grand (hence the name) but it is also quaint and super chic. It’s right on the water and right outside the hotel is a 10 mile trail that surrounds the water where everyone runs and rides their bikes. Aka – so me!
But anyways – we then changed and went out and about to explore the city and grab lunch!
So far, Lucerne is seriously the most gorgeous city. It’s right on Lake Lucerne, it’s surrounded by The Alps and everything is within walking distance. The buildings are beautiful, the views are beautiful, the water is beautiful, the restaurants are beautiful and even the people are beautiful. The one thing that we were not expecting though, is what a “happening” city this is. For such a small town, there is a lot of hustle and bustle and there are always a lot of people around. We were expecting it to be dead and super quaint but that’s not the case. The city is alive! During lunch time, everyone is at outdoor cafes or sitting by the water enjoying their lunch and by 4:00 p.m. everyone is back out again for happy hour.
Another thing that I love is that everyone has a dog and takes their dogs everywhere. Colton and I feel super silly, but we seriously wish a Mister Bentley was here with us!
Our first day, we surprisingly did a lot and explored a lot, but we were also super tired. Even though I said no to a nap to avoid jet lag in Wednesday’s post, by 4:00 o’clock yesterday, we were both dying and knew we had to if we wanted to make it to dinner. We still weren’t able to make it out super late, but after a quick and little 20 minute snooze, sheesh, we were able to power through!
I will be sure to do a whole guide on Lucerne in the weeks to come!
In the mean time, I hope you all had an amazing week and thank you all once again for understanding and baring with me through everything. I hate only posting 3x a week, but during this time, especially as we travel, it is the best thing for me!
Then really quick, before I end this, these exact boots that I am wearing have been sold out or discontinued at most stores but I found them here and on sale! They are my absolute favorite and I love they are a zip up instead of a tie. Then this scarf (which I am obsessed with), is identical to one that sold out super fast at J. Crew. It’s from Banana Republic and is being sold online only. It says they will bring it to stores but it is doing so well, that I think they will sell out before they are able too!
Be sure to follow along today to see where we are headed next!
xo,
Lauren
