Welcome to Equinox, you guys!
Is this post overdue or what? I can’t believe that after over a year and a half of being a member of Equinox, I am just now writing this post. But better late than never, amiright?
Anyways, a little background story as to why and how Colton and I decided to join the Equinox Club.
When Equinox first opened, it was all the hype around Houston. Especially in the fitness community. There wasn’t a luxury fitness facility inside the loop at the time and this was the first Equinox in Texas, so it was a big deal!
Equinox is located in the River Oaks District, which we live super close too and drive past almost every day. Before we joined, Colton and I were both super unhappy with our current gym situation. We wanted to join so badly but refrained because of the cost and the stigma around how “pricey” the facility was. Eventually, though, we went for a tour and fell in love. We signed up right then and there.
We loved the facility and everything it had to offer. It was in a fantastic location and after hearing the price and calculating how much I was actually spending with my previous gym membership and boutique classes, it really wasn’t as pricey as we once thought. It was 100% worth it.
About Equinox
Equinox is a premier luxury boutique fitness club. Their River Oaks, two-story location, was the very first one in Texas and since have built two clubs in Dallas and are currently building one in Austin!
Equinox is known for their immaculate gym and specialty fitness classes. It has a very large free weight and weight machine floor, alongside an incredibly vast amount of cardio machines! The machines are top of the line and you’ll rarely (if ever) have to wait for a machine. They also offer a ton of boutique fitness classes ranging from Pilates and Yoga to Weight Lifting Classes, Cycling, Kickboxing and more.
They have incredibly nice locker rooms, the spa is amazing and the business lounge is incredibly chic. Downstairs they have the cutest fitness apparel boutique and a smoothie bar/pre-made meals to go area as well!
Club Highlights

What I like the most about Equinox
- It’s so close to my apartment and is in a great area in general.
- The Parking is easy.
- They offer a ridiculous amount of classes. And let me tell you, these are not the average classes you would find at other fitness facilities. These classes are intense and taught by very high up, certified personal trainers. Any class you may want to go too, you can try at Equinox.
- It’s never packed. Mainly because it is a pricier club and the fact that you have to sign a year-long commitment to the club.
- The facility is immaculate and clean all the time.
- So many cardio machine options! They have enough for everyone and are state of the art machines.
- The locker rooms are so nice and all of the complementary products are Kiehls.
- There is a major facility in almost every major city! Which is super nice, especially when visiting places like LA and NYC where I swear they have a million clubs lol.
- There is a Fast Fuel Bistro on the first floor, which have the best smoothies and pre-prepared (actually healthy) meals to go!
- They always have cold eucalyptus towels for your use.
- A really large stretching area.
Your Equinox Questions Answered
“Is it worth the price?”
This one is up to you. If you don’t work out on a regular basis and could care less about where you do work out, then no, it’s not. But for myself, I workout 5+ days a week. Working out is my escape and is very important to me. So if fitness is your life, like it is mine, then it is 100% worth it. The club is absolutely incredible.
Plus, before joining, I was not only paying for a gym membership but also paying for classes at studio boutiques as well. My favorite studio at the time charged over $100 for just 5 classes…. By becoming a member at Equinox, I actually saved money because everything I needed was in one place. In one place I can do all of my weight lifting, cardio, yoga, pilates, spin and more. Plus, the club is just so nice. You can’t beat it.
“I heard you have to sign a year-long contract. What does that mean?”
That’s correct! When you sign up, you are committing to one year! This means that there is no signing up, not going and deciding to quit a month later. When you sign up, you’re making a year-long commitment to your health and fitness! It’s quite the motivator – let me tell you!
“What are your favorite classes?”
My favorite classes are:
- Barre Pilates: I’ve done your normal Barre class and this class is identical to the boutique class!
- Trilogy Barre: A Barre and Ballet mixed class. Absolutely love it!
- The Cut: A kickboxing-like class but without the bags. It’s a great cardio class that gets your heart rate going but is still so fun!
- Hot Vinyasa Yoga: This hour-long class is amazing and is the perfect amount of flow with the perfect amount of heat.
- Anthem: Their newest cycling class that pretty much mimics a cycling class that they would offer at Soul Cycle. I love to spin and am very critical of classes, so if I enjoyed this class, then you know it’s good!
“Is it intimidating? I picture everybody walking around in perfect shape, head to toe Lulu”
I’m not going to lie, I was worried about this at first too! But I can honestly tell you, it’s not like that at all!!! Everyone has been extremely welcoming. It’s almost like everyone just has a mutual respect for each other and wanting to put their health first. Everyone at the club is there to get their work out in and then get on with their own busy lives. People aren’t just standing around like it’s a social event or wanting to put on a show. Everyone who is there is there to work and encourage one another.
“Do you like getting ready there? Is the locker/shower room nice?”
Oh my gosh, yes!!!!! It’s honestly kind of weird how much I love getting ready there but I really do. They have everything I need and it’s just so pretty and clean. On days that I’m not in a hurry, I like to sit in the steam room and take my time, but before, when I was also working full time, I use to go to classes at 5:30 am and would just get ready there afterward. I loved how easy and convenient it was. I started to like getting ready there more than at my own house-lol.

Yes! You would love it!
Question- Are the classes free? Or do you have to pay/sign up for those too?
I don’t think I’d join but I am curious and maybe others have this question too. I’m located in the Galleria so I see it all the time on the way to work.

Hi honey!
Yes – Once you sign up, all of the classes are free! The only thing you have to pay extra for is the personal training and personal pilates reformer classes!
I think I saw you mention personal training at Equinox on instagram… I have been super interested in joining a gym with a good personal training program. Would you recommend Equinox personal training? What are some pros and cons about it? Thanks!
Hi Dana!
Yes, I just started doing personal training a few weeks ago! I’m currently on my sixth session. I’ll be doing a whole post on it in the next few weeks. So far, I LOVE it. The pros are that they teach you correct form, moves you might normally do and push you hard. The cons would only be the price… personal training is definitely an investment but so worth it!
