Happy Wednesday Babes!

Last week I asked you guys to send me your favorite books recommendations and boy did you guys deliver! I was sent over 50 different books!! Y’all are incredible and while it took me forever, I went through them all and narrowed the list down to 16.

These top 16 that I think you all would want to read this summer! These are the top suggestions from you all, friends and my own personal reads. The books that you are going to want to read by the pool all summer long.

2018 Summer Reading List

Books To Read At The Beach Summer 2018

  1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: If you’re looking for a super easy read that takes you back in time to your 16-year-old self and the young love that follows, then this book is for you! I loved how sweet light-hearted this book was. I loved it so much I read the sequel, P.S I Still Love You.
  2. Little Fires Everywhere: One of the books recommended by so many of you. Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon loved this book so much they actually just picked it up to run as a series on Hulu. Little Fires Everywhere is about a single mother, who moves to the suburbs in Ohio with her teenage daughter and become neighbors to what you would call a “picture-perfect family”. The two families find themselves on opposing sides when a custody battle erupts and the plot unfolds to explore the weight of secrets, the struggles of motherhood and the danger of always following the rules.
  3. First Comes Love: A few of you guys recommended this book and after reading the description, I had to add it to the list! #1 New York Best Seller, brought to you by the author of Something Borrowed, First Comes Love is a tale of two sisters and sibling rivalry. It’s about family, friendship, and the courage to follow your own heart—wherever that may lead.
  4. Girl Wash Your Face: Need a motivational book this summer? Then this book is for you. Stop believing the lies about who you are so you can become who you were meant to be.  Another one so many of you recommended and cannot wait to read for myself!!
  5. Summer Sisters: If you grew up reading Judy Bloom like I did, then go ahead and add this to the top of your list. It’s about two best friends, a crazy summer in Martha’s Vinyard, their life after that summer and the secrets they still hold.
  6. Mother Can You NOT?: Based on the Instagram account @CrazyJewishMom, Kate Siegel’s, Mother Can You NOT? is based on a set of hilarious essay collections about her mother. From embarrassing moments to outrageous stories and hilarious celebrations, Mother, Can you NOT? shows lengths to which our mothers will go to better our lives (even if it feels like they’re ruining them in the process).
  7. Girls In White Dresses: I read this book my senior year in college and fell in love. I literally read it in like a day and was sad when it was over. If you feel like everyone around you is getting married and has their lives together, then you will love this book. It’s based on a group of girlfriends living in new york, figuring out life and relationships of their own, attending lots of weddings and finding their purpose.
  8. Crazy Rich Asian: The number one recommended book by all of you! Seriously, my DM’s were flooded with girls recommending it. From what you all have told me, it’s absolutely hilarious and is being made into a movie. It’s about a girl who goes to Singapore with her boyfriend to meet his family – expecting them to be a small humble Asian family when she quickly realizes out that’s not the case. They are rich and not just rich, but crazy rich. It’s about her trying to figure out how to fit in his life, his crazy mother who tries to tear them apart and if their love is worth all of the drama.
  9. White Girl Problems: This book is hilarious and vulgar – so just a forewarning!  It will have you laughing out loud throughout the whole thing. Written by Babe Walker, the creator of White Girl Rosé, her book, White Girl Problems is a series of stories from her overprivileged “white girl” life. Growing up in Los Angeles with way too much money and ultimately ending up in rehab after spending $246,893 after a meltdown in Barney’s one afternoon.
  10.  After “I Do”: Recommended by one of my favorite bloggers. After “I Do” gives a seductive twist on the timeless tale of a couple trying to rediscover love in a marriage. When their marriage comes to a breaking point, the main characters, Lauren and Ryan decide to take one year off from marriage in hopes of falling in love again. It’s a love story about what happens when love fades. It’s about staying in love, seizing love, forsaking love, and committing to love with everything you’ve got.
  11. The After Party: I cannot recommend this book enough. Everyone that has read this book has loved it! It’s Gossip Girl set in the 1950’s and if you’re from Houston, you’re going to love it even more. The whole book is set in River Oaks, and is based on two best friends, the secrets that keep them apart, the sister-like friendship that holds them together and the outrageous life of old rich oil money.
  12. The Couple Next Door: If mysteries are more your style, then you will love the Couple Next Door. This one was recommended by one of my sweet friends and many of you. It’s a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist. According to you all, it’s a crazy page-turner!
  13. When Life Gives You Lululemon’s: I personally cannot wait to read this one! Remember Emily from The Devil Wears Prada? Well, this book is all about Emily after she leaves the magazine. She’s living in Los Angeles as an image consultant to stars when she starts to lose a few clients and finds herself living in suburbia.
  14. Just One Day: My best friend recommended this book to me after reading it in one day. Just One Day is about a girl who lives her life exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week high school graduation European trip, she meets Willem. A free-spirited actor who is everything she’s not. Then when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, for Just One Day,  she says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform her life.
  15. Where’d You Go, Bernadette: If you haven’t read this book, then you need too! The book is set in Seattle and revolves around a mother named Bernadette Fox. A former architect, whose life has been encompassed by her anxiety disorder and goes missing prior to a family trip to Antarctica. It is narrated by her 15-year-old daughter Bee and it’s about mean PTA moms, the true bond between a mother and daughter and figuring exactly what happened to Bernadette?
  16. My Not So Perfect Life: Part love story, part workplace drama, My Not So Perfect Life is about all of the false judgments we make in a social-media-obsessed world and the stories we tell ourselves. Something I think we can all relate too! It’s a New York Times Best Seller and from I have heard from you guys, is a total page-turner.

Which ones have I already read?

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (1), White Girl Problems (9), The After Party (11), Just One Day (14), Where’d You Go Bernadette? (15), Girls In White Dresses (19)

If I had to pick one book I’ve already read for you?

Hands down The After Party (11).

Which ones will I be reading this summer?

First, I have to finish Just One Day (14) before my best friend kills me – lol.  For some reason, I downloaded it on Colton’s iPad, which he’s always using, so it’s hard for me to get a chance to use it, but as soon as I finish it (hopefully this week!), I will be picking up Summer Sisters (5) because I have always loved Judy Bloom and grew up reading her books. Plus, I leave for Destin a week and think it will be the perfect book to read by the beach! Then I want to immediately grab Crazy Rich Asians (8), then Girl Wash Your Face (4), When Life Gives You Lululemon’s (13), First Comes Love (3) and After “I Do” (10).

I know that’s a lot, but they honestly all sound so good that I am having a hard time narrowing the list down!

What book will you be picking up this summer?

xo,

Lauren
