I know that everyone says that their Wedding Day was the best day of their life, but I can’t explain just how true that sentiment is for me. Our wedding was filled with a lot of tears and a lot of laughs. A lot of wine, amazing views and a whole lot of dancing. Colton is without a doubt my best friend and the love of my life and the fact that we were able to get married in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, in front of 85 of our closest friends and family makes me the luckiest girl in the world.
When I look back on our wedding day, I just remember feeling so overwhelmed by the amount of love and happiness that I could feel in the air. I don’t remember the food (even though I heard it was amazing!), the small details or the specific white bar I spent two months looking for… I only remember so desperately wanting to see Colton, the faces and hugs from all of our guests after the ceremony and dancing the night away.
Early on in the wedding planning, we decided that we wanted to do a destination wedding and that we wanted to make it as amazing as possible for the ones we love. We chose to have the whole thing outdoors, in a romantic garden setting. My theme for the whole wedding was honestly just “classic”. I wanted the whole thing to be crisp and timeless. Which worked out perfectly in our favor when we had to postpone the wedding from October.
It was a beautiful day and I think I can speak for both Colton and I, when I say, we have never felt more loved in my entire life. The whole day really was magical and I would do anything to be able to relive it all over again. My Dad gave Colton and I the wedding of our dreams and I have never been so thankful for something in my entire life. We’re so thankful for all of our friends and family who traveled so far to celebrate with us and for our vendors who went above and beyond.
Wedding Questions
Since you and Colton had a destination wedding, who married you?
Colton’s Dad, Scott 🙂 We had the option to hire a youth minister, but having someone marry Colton and I, who didn’t know us personally, felt odd. We thought and prayed a lot about it and one day, asking his Dad to do us the honor just felt right. Anyone who knows Colton’s Dad knows that he was born for this role – lol. He’s truly a son of Christ, he’s warm, loves a crowd and most importantly knows mine and Colton’s hearts.
Did you guys write your own vows?
Yes – we did!!
Was dinner served Plated or was it Buffet style?
Dinner was served plated! Our caterer actually did not offer a buffet as an option. They specialize in plated dinners and each course was served with its appropriate wine pairing, so it was actually really cool and a fun experience for our guests!
Were there toasts?
Yes! Although just by the Best Man, my MOH’s (I had two, my best friend Annie & my little sister) and my Dad. We had an open mic at the Rehearsal the night before for the rest of the guests. The toats were done during dinner, and while everyone did an amazing job – my little sister Hannah J, killed it. I swear she had everyone crying by the end of it.
Grooms Cake?
Kind of! Colton chose to have a Smores Bar instead!
First Dance Song?
Michael Bublé – Everything
Fun fact: Colton actually sang “Everything” to me at a karaoke bar in Austin on my 2oth Birthday. Ever since then, it’s always been our song.
DJ or Band?
We had an eight-person band (the lucky devils band) and they were truly so incredible. When I say that everyone was on the dance floor, I mean EVERYONE. Besides the venue as a whole, they were probably my favorite part of the wedding.
Did you have a full bar or just beer and wine?
We did both, but in sections. For the cocktail hour through dinner, we only served beer and wine, then opened up the full bar after dinner when the dance floor opened. We did this as a way to keep our guests from getting completely toasted too early on.
His & Her Drink?
We decided not have them at the wedding but did have ‘ Texas Margaritas ‘ at the Rehearsal Dinner the night before.
Was there a garter or bouquet toss?
We decided early on we did not want to do a garter toss but did want to do a bouquet toss. When the time came to do the bouquet toss, I’m not sure what happened… but my guess is that they couldn’t get me off the dance floor (lol) and it just never happened – which I am fine with!
Were there any sorts of drama or hiccups that happened? How did you deal with it?
Every wedding will have its own portion of drama. My best advice is that when it does, keep moving on and don’t let it ruin your big day. I was thankful enough to have the most amazing vendors who really stepped in and took care of everything.
Besides the ceremony, what was your favorite part?
The fact that we had all of the people we love and that have impacted us the most throughout our lives and our relationship all be there with us celebrating our day. After a whole weekend together, by the end of the wedding, everyone was like one big happy family and that was so cool to see. Of course, there were people who were not able to make it and were truly missed, but for those that were there, it was awesome to see.
Then my second favorite part was the last song of the night. The band played Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and I swear every single person was on that dance floor. Dancing and singing the lyrics as loud as they all could. I literally get chills thinking about it. The energy and the love was incredible.
Vendor Information
Below is all of the information on my vendors – who were without a doubt all rockstars. I feel like they all went through so much with me during this whole process and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.
Especially my planner Kathy who was such a mother figure for me and just went above in beyond the past two years to help make this day so special for Colton and I. Everytime I kept finding myself truly stressed or lost, she lifted me up and always left me at ease. Then also my photographer Jenna, who is clearly so talented and who has this constant warm and calming aura around her. There were so many moments that I kept finding myself so thankful for her. Yes, she was our hired photographer but she also became a friend.
