Happy Valentine’s Day Loves!
Whether you’re celebrating with your significant other, your friends, your family or even your favorite pup – I hope you give and get a little bit of love from everyone in your life today!
Instead of sharing an overly mushy gushy post on this official day of love (if you want that, click here and here), I thought I would give you guys a sneak peek into our real lives and share ‘10 Things We Don’t Have In Common‘ instead! Reason being? I think we tend to have super high standards for all of the people in our lives and expect each person we come across to check something off our list. When instead, we should be celebrating our differences and looking at it as an opportunity to grow and to learn something new.
While we are very similar in so many ways, I do love all of the differences we share because it makes us who we are! Plus, how boring would life be if were completely the same!;) This post was actually really fun for us to create because we have been coming up with this list the past few months. Anytime something would happen or we would disagree on one little thing we’d laugh and say “this is getting added to the list lol!”.
10 Things We ‘Don’t’ Have In Common
- Colton is super athletic and I’m the complete opposite. While I love to workout and push myself, sports have never really my thing. Like I was in cheerleading for 5+ years, but I was never like oh-my-god amazing. Colton on the other hand? He grew up playing hockey (like lived and breathed it) and even moved away at the age of 16 to play with the Dallas Stars Junior Team. Until this day, he still plays every week and is just an all-around natural athlete. He’s just literally good at every single sport.
- I’m a breakfast person and Colton isn’t. I mean, don’t get me wrong – Colton likes breakfast food but he could definitely go without it and on an average day, he won’t eat a thing until lunch! Basically, he’s been practicing intermittent fasting before it was ever even a thing lol. Then you have me over here, who wakes up thinking about breakfast! I eat the same thing every day and my day feels totally off if I don’t have it!
- He’s great at math and science while I’m more of the reading and writing type! When it comes to math and science, the struggle is real for me ya’ll! So thank goodness I married someone that will be able to help our future children with their homework. For those of you who don’t know, Colton is an Electrical/Computer Engineer and graduated with a math minor! So math and science are really is his thing!
- I’m very type a and he’s a mess in a half. To me, everything has a place and in order to feel completely relaxed, I need to be in a clean space. When I lived alone, my apartment was always clean and perfectly put together. Colton on the other hand, could not be any more different lol! Literally, the man leaves his stuff lying around everywhere. In his defense, he has gotten better and I knew this about him prior to marrying him (his room in college was a literal disaster) but this is something we work on every single day.
- He hates to watch any sort of preview for a show and I love them! If there is a show we like to watch together (ex: we’re watching Million Little Things and Manifest right now!) at the end of the episode when it says “Next week on ….” he always gets up and leaves while I literally have to see what’s going to happen next! I’m the type of person who loves to read spoilers too! In all honesty, it really comes down to the fact that I have little to no patience and hate surprises but Colton would rather just not know and loves the surprise of it all.
- Colton loves sweets and I prefer savory! I’m literally not kidding you when I say that Colton has THE BIGGEST sweet tooth in the world. Like, I’ve seen homeboy eat 6 cupcakes in one sitting (lolol) and while I do like sweets, I’d pick a cheese board over a cupcake any day of the week.
- We have totally different taste in music!! I mean, we like some of the same stuff (like today’s typical top hits and then top hits from the late 90’s/early 2000’s and stuff) but for the most part, it’s different. Like, I like a lot of oldies, pop, soft rock and country music whereas if he is controlling the radio, he’ll pick something like edm. You know, like festival music – lol! Which honestly I don’t hate…. but I’m just kind of more of a time and place sort of person whereas he listens to it all day long.
- I grew up going to Catholic/private school my whole life and he went to public! Neither one is better than the other, but we definitely joke around about it a lot! Like I grew up in a smaller setting with a lot of rules and uniforms and it’s just funny because his school literally had like no rules and graduated with over 650 people! Which I’m pretty sure was bigger than my whole school combined!!
- We come from different family dynamics. Im not kidding you when I say our families are totally different – lol! Colton’s family is definitely more traditional and his parents have been together for like ever! I think they are going on 25 years or something like that?! Whereas my parents separated when I was 4(?), but it has honestly been so long that I don’t even remember anymore. I have somewhere over 25 cousins combined and Colton has his close-knit 5. Then my little sister (Hannah J) and I are almost 10 years apart while Colton and his sister are barely two. We just come from totally different groups and it has been really fun combining the two.
- Colton is really competitive and I am definitely not! To Colton, everything is a contest and if you’re not first, you’re last. Can you name that movie lol? Me on the other hand, I could care less if I win. I’m more of an “as long as we all had fun” kind of person!
Moral of the story? Differences are a beautiful thing that make you and your relationship unique. These are only a quarter of our differences and yet he is my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day!!
We leave for Mexico City bright and early tomorrow morning so we’re just planning on cooking dinner at home and relaxing a little bit before our trip!
xo,
Lauren
