I don’t know about you guys, but for me, Labor Day Weekend marks the end of summer in my book. Sure, it won’t get cooler here in Houston for weeks (maybe even months) but it’s a subcontious part of me that makes me want to start dressing for the new season. Sure, I won’t be wearing chunky sweaters paired with booties and a scarf anytime soon, but there are still ways to do it!
As you can tell from my look above, I’m clearly a fan of wearing white after Labor Day. In fact, if we’re being completely honest, I’m a fan of wearing white all year round (lol) but I really love wearing it during the fall.
I personally think that white may very well be the transitional color you never knew you needed.
In the early 1900s, in the world of the elite, the rule about only wearing white between Memorial Day and Labor Day centered around all of the summertime vacationing schedules. During this time, there was truly a “dress code” for everything, and wearing white only during this time was one of them!
Thankfully, this rule is no longer recognized but I do think there is a right and wrong way to pull it off.
How To Wear White After Labor Day
Mix in Darker Tone Accessories
When wearing white after labor day, the key is to mix in darker accessories to your look. Especially when you’re trying to transition your style into the fall! From tortoise shell sunglasses like my ones from above, to darker print silk scarfs, gold earrings, handbags and more – it’s simple pieces like these that give your whole look a warmer toned vibe.
Switch up the Fabrics and Mix in Different Shades of White
You could try pairing an ivory sweater with white jeans, adding a chunky sweater into the mix or rocking a linen blazer! It’s all about mixing the different variations to give your look some depth, as opposed to just reaching for a summer fabric like eyelet. Take my outfit above for example – I paired a white, shortsleeved sweater with summertime paper bag shorts! Totally different fabrics, yet still compliment each other perfectly.
White Jeans
One of the easiest ways to transition your white pieces into the fall! I’m personally loving the straight leg – loose fitting trend!
Ground Your All White Look with a Winter Shoe
Mules, leopard sandals, booties and all of the above! Rock white on rock with a Fall/Winter shoe and immediately give your look some edge.
Switch Out Your Summer Bags
Go ahead and put your summertime bamboo circle bag away and start giving your fall handbags some love! I’m obsessed with all of the ones below.
White Shoes
Love a simple white shoe. Literally, so stinking chic and easy to add!
xo,
Lauren
