Christmas Family Traditions

During the last week of November, I asked you guys to share your favorite holiday traditions with me and y’all did not disappoint!! They were all so amazing and I truly loved reading every single one of them.

We’re really wanting to start new traditions with our little family to make the holiday season even more special and yall gave us so many amazing ideas that I wanted to combine them all in here and share!!

Christmas Family Traditions

  • “Homemade cinnamon rolls (from scratch) EVERY Christmas Eve morning! Enough to carry over to Christmas Day!” – kylieannmonica

  • “Making a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve with my family then on Christmas morning we sing him happy birthday and eat cake for breakfast. We’ve been doing that literally my entire life and now my in-laws do it too!” –mrskpbaldwin
  • “My boyfriends family decorates his parents house for Christmas the day after thanksgiving, outside and inside all in one fell swoop with everyone involved” – masinmaggie

  • “We film our year on our camcorder (doesn’t go on social media) and then every Christmas Eve we watch the year! I’ve started burning them onto DVDs i loved being able to watch my home videos as a kid and want to keep that going with my family!” – lc_smith94
  • “Growing up my mom collected Disney ornaments and we always had a regular tree and a Disney tree in our house! She passed down some of the antique ornaments to me and I’m continuing the tradition but also letting each of my kids pick one new Disney ornament to add to the tree each year so the collection will continue!” – kylieannmonica

  • “My family opens all the gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve & then Santa’s gifts are for in the morning! I always loved that tradition. Also no matter our age we had to stay in our rooms until our parents came and knocked on the door in the morning- no peeking!” -crmcward
  • “I am of German heritage and I grew up with the tradition of the Christmas pickle ornament and still partake in that tradition at 40!!!” –sarahbear239
  • “Every year, we got a Christmas ornament that we opened on Xmas eve. It represented something from the year and the date was always written on it. Now that I’m married and having my own Christmas trees, I get to hang my special ornaments that have represented my life so far.” – alexwirkkala

One year we we to our friends house for Christmas eve and stole one of THEIR ornaments and then the next year they came over and stole one of ours.   • “My grandparents always had stockings for us at their house on Christmas Eve that we would get right after Church (that we actually celebrated in their basement with a retired priest) and it was so fun to dig into them!   • “My parents gave us a new Christmas ornament every year, usually something to memorialize what was “big” for us in that year (new toy/show obsession, graduation, starting college, etc) and now I have a huge collection of meaningful ornaments to decorate my own Christmas tree with!
