Also, because, well, I share everything with you 🙂

For anyone who knows me very well, I am almost impossible to surprise. So the fact that he pulled off the impossible and surprised me the way he did is completely mind blowing. If I said I didn’t have an inkling leading up to this trip, I would 100% be lying. I remember back in January, my girlfriends and I talking about how we thought it was going to happen on the trip. But as the months came on, Colton and I talked about marriage a lot. Like a lot, a lot, and we both decided it was not a good time for us to get engaged. That we were going to wait, at least a year. Even just a few weeks before leading up to the trip, he told me that he wanted to make sure that I was going to be okay not getting engaged, and that when it doesn’t happen, I couldn’t be upset. So I agreed and knew it wasn’t the right time, but still hoped – lol. I mean, I knew he said it wasn’t going to happen, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t day dream about it right?!

Well….. the first few days into our trip….Colton was weird to say the least. Just very, very distant. Which was really hard for me because I had been invisioning how great the trip would be for us, and instead he was just so weird. Barely talking, almost like he didn’t know how to talk to me! He also tried to get away from me as much as possible. For example, the night before he proposed, we came back from dinner and I started to get ready for bed but as usual. Then as soon as we get back, he immediately goes, “I’m going to go walk with my dad, bye.” and then just left. I mean, I was so confused. Like, here I am, weeks before leaving thinking he was going to propose, and now he is acting like this?

Needless to say, getting engaged on this trip was not happening.

When we got into Capri the next morning, the moods had shifted and we were both so excited! Capri had been the city we looked forward to the most, and we couldn’t wait to explore. That morning he helped me pick out my outfit, which was a lot more casual then I planned because I knew we would be doing a lot of walking. Which is another reason I knew it wasn’t happening. I’m still mad at him for letting me wear what he did-lol.

We got into Capri, and I swear it was even more beautiful then I could have ever imagined! Literally you guys, I was in LOVE. I can’t even begin to tell you how many pictures I took while we were there.

After an hour or two of roaming and shopping, we took a 20 minute walk down the side of a mountain to the most beautiful lunch spot I had ever seen. A restaurant overlooking the Farglioni called Da Luigi. This was the one place Colton wanted to go and planned out, so I was excited to see what he had picked! Hoping it was worth the 20 minute walk because we were all so hangry by the end of it-lol. When we got to the restaurant, it was so incredibly breathtaking. I swear, it’s like God spent all of his time in Capri. We had an amazing lunch by the water, and Colton’s parents kept buying bottles of champagne. Which I thought was strange at the time, but I just figured they were as pumped as I was to be in Capri!

As we were finishing up, Colton ran off to the restroom and Colton’s dad said we should go down and feel the water. At that moment, my first thought was “Oh! I should go put my swimsuit on!!! I want to swim!” But his dad told me there was only one restroom and to wait for Colton. So as we were down by the water, I sat on a rock..annoyed at Colton for taking so long, because….well… I wanted to put my swimsuit on so we could swim (head bump-lol).

Then as I was sitting on the rock, I felt Colton put his hands on my shoulder. As I turned around, I could only see his shoes, as to which I immediately realized had changed. Incredibly confused, I turned around even more to see he had completely changed into slacks and a button up. At that point, it hit me that it was happening, and I completely froze.

He came around to the front of me, and I was honestly jello. He tried to get me to stand up, and I couldn’t, I just starting shaking and then hysterically crying in disbelief. So right then and there, in the most beautiful place on earth, he asked me to be his wife. Before I could say yes, or even look at the ring, I literally just grabbed his face to kiss him. After a while, he was like “Lauren…you never said yes!”. Then of course I did, and he showed me the ring. I continued to cry in disbelief.  I just couldn’t believe it was happening

engagement 7

Afterwards, we took a boat ride around the island in a boat called “True Love” (corny, I know, but I loved it) before jumping in to finally swim in the Mediterranean like I had wanted to all day. Once the outing was over, we went to a cafe with his family and had a million desserts and even more champagne to celebrate.

He explained the reason he was being so weird before was because he was trying to plan everything and was afraid he was going to spill it! Which completely makes sense as to how he was acting.

It truly was the best day. I just had so many emotions running through me and after years of talking about getting engaged, I couldn’t believe it was all leading up to that moment. That this boy, who I fell in love with when I was 19, is the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with.

So thank you to everyone for the kind wished and words. They mean the world to Colton and I. The over amount of love we received was indescribable.

What the next year will bring, I am not sure. The thought of wedding planning gives me anxiety -lol. As for now, we have decided that we just want to enjoy being engaged for at least a month before we start any heavy planning.

Enjoy the rest of your day and thank you for taking the time read our story 🙂

xo,

Lauren
