Happy Friday Babes!!
I hope you all had great week!
For weeks, Colton and I have been planning on leaving for Waco this afternoon, to spend the weekend in our college town and to see the Bears play. Kind-of unfortunately though, we decided last night to cancel the trip. While I am super bummed about it (because I really miss Waco), out of all weekends for us to leave Houston, this wasn’t it. Friday is one of our closet friends birthdays, so we want to be here for that. Then Colton’s two best friends, who recently moved away from Houston, will be back in town for the weekend, and then also my best friend (my moh) is coming in and I haven’t seen her since the wedding, so it literally just made no sense for us to leave!
So, while I’m bummed about Waco – I’m still really looking forward to this weekend!
Last week on Instagram, I shared with you all a few of my tips for healthy Game Day Snack substitutions and you all wanted more information on them – so here ya go!!
There is no hiding that we watch a lot of football on the weekends. From Baylor and college football on Saturdays, to the Texans on Sundays and literally every other game in-between because of Colton’s Fantasy Football League(s)… I’ve learned to just accept the fact that football comes before everything this time of year – lol. Which I honestly don’t mind! We’re either with friends and family watching the games or we’re at home, cleaning and getting ready for the week with the games on in the background.
The only part I have really had to alter and watch over the years though are Game Day Snacks. You guys know… I wouldn’t exactly call them the healthiest! So throughout the years, I have learned to make different substitutions and make healthier choices when game day snacking!
Five Healthy Football Snack Substitutions
Roasted Nuts vs Trail Mix
Roasted nuts are a great substitute for Trail Mix because they’re filled with healthy fats and have like no sugar. Trail Mix on the other hand is filled with sugared raisins, chocolate and do not fill you up like roasted nuts will. Pro tip: Pop them in the microwave for like 25 seconds and it’s a game changer!
Siete Tortilla Chips vs White Tortilla Chips
If you haven’t tried siete tortilla chips – do so and then thank me later!! Seriously, they are the lightest, low carb chips on the market and are delicious. You can find them at Whole Foods and HEB!
Vegetable Trays vs Everything
Fresh Veggies – need I say more? Before you reach for anything, reach for the veggie tray! Veggies are filled with so much water and fiber, so they will fill you up better and faster than everything. If you really want to go the extra mile, ditch the ranch and dip your veggies in some fresh guac or hummus but also, don’t beat yourself up about the ranch. You only live once.
Guacamole vs Queso
Love me some guac! Trade out the queso that’s filled with saturated fat, for the healthy fats found in some fresh guacamole. While guac can be deceiving bc it is super high in calories, at the end of the day, it’s still better than melted cheese.
Homemade – Baked Hotwings vs Store Bought
This is a favorite in our home!
Instead of picking up hot wings from a place like Buffalo Wild Wings (so fattening and high in calories that I can’t even), make them at home! We pick them up fresh and uncooked at Whole Foods and marinate them in this organic wing sauce (seriously so good), bake them in the oven at 400 for 20 minutes then top them with a little more sauce while they’re still hot and BAM. Seriously, so good.
bought this sauce at Whole Foods but you can also pick it up from Amazon 🙂
Skinny Pop vs Microwave Popcorn
If you haven’t tried Skinny Pop, Boom Chicka Pop or any other skinny popcorn brands, then stop what you’re doing, run to the store and go try them because your life will be changed forever. Microwave popcorn is so bad for you (especially when you add more butter & etc.) on so many different levels that I don’t want to get into it…nor have the time.. but these skinny popcorn brands do a great job, are absolutely delicious and are so much better for you!
You can pick them up at literally any grocery store in the popcorn and chip aisle.
Alcohol & Soda Substitutions
Instead of spending the day drinking heavy, craft beer – try a light beer like Shiner Blonde Light or a Michelob. They are both under 100 calories and only have like 1 gram of carbs.
If you don’t want to drink alcohol or sodas but want something more than just a water bottle, grab a Topochico! I swear I am addicted to them.
xo,
Lauren
