Happy Friday Babes!

We made it to the weekend again!! I feel like it has been awhile since I’ve chatted with you guys on here so I thought I’d take this Friday to give you all a little life update.

A few life changes……

  • We fully converted our second bedroom into my office! The guest bed was moved into storage and we got a cute little pink futon to replace it. The whole room has a long ways to go until it’s completely finished…. but it is a start and we have both loved having the extra space.
  • I hired two interns!! Back in January, I put a blog post out that I was looking to hire someone and I ended up hiring two! They just started last month, so things are still new, but I’m really excited about the whole thing. I’m not going to lie though, I’ve had a really hard time delegating tasks and letting go of control in certain areas but I’m getting more and more comfortable with it all!

I had a “Come to Jesus” Moment

Actually, I’ve had two! They were “Come to Jesus” moments that I didn’t know I needed…..but truly did need.  So lets break them down.

  • I Realized I Lost My “Why”:  A few weeks ago, I was reading a blog post on the struggles of social media and what it’s like working in this influencer industry. It was a really good post, but the one part that really stuck out to me was when the author said, “How different would our feeds look if followers and likes weren’t public and only visible to us? What would you be posting and sharing?“. This hit me really hard because in the past two years or so, I feel as though I’ve gotten so caught up in “what’s getting the most likes” and “what is doing well for others” that I feel as though I have lost my why. It brought me back to the realization that I didn’t start blogging for likes or for sales…. but to share my life and inspiration (in all areas) for anyone that needed it.
  • I Realized I’ve Been Living in My Inbox: The past year or so, I have felt so uninspired and uncreative. Which I’m sure you guys have caught onto, due to my lack of daily blog posts. For years, I was shooting out 5 blog posts a week and recently, that just hasn’t been the case on here. I mean, I only put out two posts this week for crying out loud! For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why I was feeling so uninspired and why I couldn’t get my content out….. until last week. I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, (the “Him & Her Podcast from the Skinny Confidential”) and the tip of the week was “To Stop Working Out of Your Inbox and Start Working On Your Business”. Ya’ll, it gave me chills and everything just clicked. I realized that sitting at my desk, 6-8 hours a day, checking my inbox every 15 minutes was my culprit. Going from a desk job and working a 9-5, to working from home and blogging full time has been hard on me, but I didn’t realize how much it was hurting my business. I thought that in order for me to be taken seriously by my family, my husband and myself, that I needed to be at my desk “x” amount of time during the day with my head down. Answering every single email in a prompt amount of time, pitching brands as much as I could and booking as many collaborations as possible. Which at the end of the day is great and all, but what happened to the blog? I realized that I can’t be creative, photoshoot and put out content that’s valuable for readers, when I’m stuck at my desk, living in my emails all day. So this week, I took a step back, dedicated only a certain amount of time to emails a day, and ya’ll it has been life changing. For the first time in the longest time, I have a clear look at the future of this blog and the type of content I want to push out for you guys.

Upcoming Trips

At this moment, the only trip I have fully set up is a trip to Dallas the first weekend of April and the rest are in the works. We’re looking to plan a (very last minute) spring trip at the end of March and maybe a quick weekend trip to Austin in April but for the most part, we are really focusing on planning a trip for our one-year anniversary in May! So if you guys have any suggestions on where we should go, (PLEASE) leave them in the comments section below!

Weekend Plans

This weekend, we’re home in Houston and I am really looking forward to it!! Colton’s childhood friend is a really popular dj (Kayzo), so we are going to see him perform Saturday night and then Sunday afternoon I am going to the Houston Improve Club with my friend, Katelyn, to see Claudia Oshry ( @girlwithnojob) preform stand up for her Dirty Jeans Tour! I’m a big fan of the Youtube/Podcast morning show that she and her sister put on everyday (The Morning Toast) so I am like super pumped to see her live!

Have a great weekend!

xo,

Lauren

    Banff for your Anniversary 🙂
I’ve been to Vancouver and Victoria on the west coast and Prince Edward Island on the east coast of Canada, but Banff is at the top of my list next time I’m back in Canada! I LOVE Canada! haha

It seems to me on the surface that you needed some rest time for a few days to clear your mind and re prioritise some issues in your life. Traveling to new places is always fun and you can always recap that on the blog afterward. In my job I don’t always have time to respond to e mails all day. Half of the time in my job it’s the same e mail topic 8 different times. Sometimes my manager yells over the cubicle to tell me that this is important to read or my staff member. In my job I am an acting accounting supervisor which I hope turns permanent. My advice to you is to get all of that stylish fashion out there and mix it up with some travel shoots
