Last weekend, we were able to check off another item on my spring to-do list by having a spring picnic with our sweet friends, Alex and Heather! It has been absolutely gorgeous in Houston, so we wanted to take advantage of it!
I’ll be completely honest, we don’t normally picnic, so this was definitely a special occasion for us. I was worried the guys were going to think it was lame, but to my surprise, they absolutely loved it! We seriously had the best time and before we knew it, a few hours (& a few bottles of wine) had gone by. We had a charcuterie board, fruit, a fresh baguette and lots of wine. Decoy to be exact! We were absolutely blown away by the Rosé. Prior to our picnic, everyone thought of Decoy as a red wine, so I loved introducing everyone to something new!
A Few Tips On How To Have The Perfect Picnic
-Pick a convenient location
When finding the perfect spot, we started out at a few areas recommended on Google, but they were so packed that we decided to choose elsewhere. We wanted a spot that wouldn’t cause stress or require us to walk miles so we ended up finding a gorgeous location at the local university (Rice). It was easy to park, there was great people watching, the grounds were beautiful and they allowed alcohol.
-Have a variety of different cheeses and meat
Some may like brie and others may not. Same thing with prosciutto! Since everyone has a different pallet, you want to have a variety so that everyone has something they will like. We went with a brie, a manchego, prosciutto and pepperoni slices.
-Bring a blanket big enough for everyone
This is a biggie! When Colton and I were in Paris, our blanket was so tiny. You want everyone to be comfortable and you also want it to be thick enough, just in case the ground is a little wet! This floral quilt is not only gorgeous but super affordable and easy to wash.
-Have the right gear
Another way to make your picnic hassle free is to have the right gear. For example, picnic baskets or backpacks that come fully equipt with plates, silverware and napkins. These are lifesavers and we honestly use ours all of the time! Especially when going to the pool to grill.
-Bring the right stemware
You will want to choose plastic, stemless wine glasses. Reason being, some parks may have regulations on having glass in the area. Then you’ll want stemless glasses because they are easier to balance on the ground and are less likely to fall over.
-Pick the right wine
You’ve put in all of the work and the planning of your picnic, so you want to choose the wine that’s perfect for the occasion! For a picnic, you want to choose a lighter and crisper type of wine. While we chose a Rosé and a Chardonnay, but a Pinot Grigio of a Sauvignon Blanc would have also been great choices! Our exacts wines were the 2017 Decoy California Rosé and the 2016 Decoy Sonoma County Chardonnay.
