Six Healthy 4th of July Recipes To Try This Year

Skinny 4th of July Recipes To Try

Welcome back cuties! I can’t believe tomorrow is the Fourth of July! Not just because this year is going by super fast….. but because it’s on a Wednesday. Like it’s the worst lol.

But if you are anything like me, you will be celebrating the 4th of July this weekend! We’ll be heading to Lake Travis with a bunch of our friends and it’s going to be a blast! One of our best friends has a lake house there and have been going there every for the holiday weekend the past few years and have such a good time! I kid you not, Colton is obsessed with this place. Like I’m pretty sure he has convinced himself that’s his lake house lol…… our poor friend! Sorry Katelyn!!

Anyways – onto why you are actually here!

When we’re not at the Lake, we are usually at my Mom’s big Fourth of July party and the main thing that the two of these have in common are the food and drinks. Everyone is celebrating, the grill is going and it’s going to be a good time. While I am all for living, I’m also very selective about my splurging and I love to have healthy options. It’s 80/20 my friends! So if you’re like me and are heading to some type of Fourth of July celebration either tomorrow or this weekend, here are a few Healthy 4th of July Recipes to try out this year!

Also, be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom! I’m also sharing a few “Party Bonus Tips”!

SIX HEALTHY 4th OF JULY RECIPES

* * *

Gluten Free – Red White and Blue Mixed Berry Pizza

Absolutely love this recipe! I make a similar one during Easter! I am most likely going to make this fruit pizza this weekend but instead of making it in a circle, I want to make it as a rectangle and decorate the fruit as the American flag!

Turkey Burgers

If you’re grilling burgers – try making some Turkey Burgers like these!! Turkey Burgers have just as much protein as a regular burger but with like half the calories and fat. I make these almost every time we grill out and more people end up eating these as opposed to your average beef burger. It’s always amazing how many people will choose the healthier option when it is available. Serve them on Whole Wheat buns or replace the buns in general with Iceberg Lettuce!

Also for this recipe – I like to add my own twist by adding goat cheese and chopped jalapeño into the ground turkey mix!! Seriously so good!

Watermelon Slices

(How To Cut Them Properly)

I know this isn’t exactly a “recipe” – but hear me out.

I am on a watermelon kick right now and let me tell you, it’s not a bad kick to be on. If you’re Fourth of July celebration is anything like mine, then you’re going to be around a lot of fattening snacks like chips, dips and more. They are so tempting – but so bad for you! I promise you though, if you show up with a small cooler Watermelon Slices cut into little triangles – they are going to be the biggest hit!

On a hot summer day (especially in Texas) no one can turn down a watermelon slice. Plus, watermelon is delicious. It’s super low calorie and contains more water than anything…. which is great because you’ll need it if you’re drinking a lot of alcohol – lol.

Here is how to properly cut watermelon slices!! Then if you want to get fancy and add something different, here is how to grill watermelon!

Vegetable Kebabs

I hope you guys are grilling this Fourth of July because I feel like half of these recipes involve grills! The thing is though, grilling is so easy and is seriously one of the healthiest ways to cook. You’re not soaking it in oil & butter or frying it – you’re just tossing it in smidge of olive oil, salt & pepper and throwing it on the grill. I love vegetables, but I love grilled vegetables. Like I could eat them like candy. Which is great because they’re filled with fiber, vitamins and lots of nutrients!

This vegetable kebab recipe is so easy and if you wanted, you could add chicken on the kebabs too!

Skinny Broccoli Salad

The perfect side if you are going to any type of grill out or barbecue! I feel like every year, someone (probably one of my aunts lol)  makes a broccoli salad and it’s delicious…. you think it’s healthy because it’s broccoli, when in reality it’s super high in calories and fat. Say hello to the culprit called mayonnaise!

I love this version of the traditional Skinny Broccoli Salad because its still seriously delicious and contains no mayo!! It also cuts the calories and fat of the traditional dish in half!

Skinny Watermelon Margarita Popsicles

Something boozy & different but so good! I told you guys – I’m on a life long watermelon kick.

While these aren’t 100% the healthiest…… hello alcohol…. they are definitely not the worst and are better than the average sugar filled popsicle!

I have been making these Watermelon Margarita Popsicles for years and they are always a hit! When we came back from Jamaica, I was on a huge rum kick and substituted the tequila for rum and it was seriously just as good! It just depends on what you like!

A Few Party Bonus’s…..

Favorite “skinny & canned” alcoholic drink for the boat or beach?

Michaelobe Ultra or White Claw

Best Liquor to Avoid Hangovers?

High-end Tequila! Tequila is not only the only liquor with the fewest amount of calories but it is also the only one that is an upper!

Skinny Cocktail?

Tequila Water. Mix a high end tequila with either water or Topochico and lots of limes. Add ice and bam!

Tips to avoid Hangover?

Drink water in between each drink  as much as you can. Then take your vitamins and b12 before drinking.

Tips for Hangovers?

Headache: Water w/ lemon (HUGE glass), Excedrine Migraine and B12.

Stomachache: Topochico & Charcoal Pills. Trust me.

Alright Babes!!

Hope you enjoyed that!! If you guys try any of these for the 4th 0f July – please take pics and send them my way!!! I love it when ya’ll DM me on Instagram recipes that you try!

Lauren
