Happy Friday Loves!
We are officially home from Destin, so I thought it was appropriate to share a few Destin Travel tidbits from our vacation. As I have mentioned before, Colton’s family does this trip ever year. They started going with Colton’s best friends family when the boys were really young and have kept the tradition going. It’s such a fun week that we look forward to every year! This year, I swear we had over 50 people in our group. It was huge! But it was also so much fun. Our trip was short and sweet and it rained a little bit, but that didn’t keep us from enjoying ourselves.

Saturday Morning, Colton and I arrived in Destin bright and early. Recently, we have been notorious for 5 am flights. They can definitely be brutal at times, but it is worth it to us to have a full day in the city in which we are visiting. I would way rather get up early, sleep on a flight and get into a location before noon as opposed to sleeping in and taking a flight in the afternoon.

This year, we had a huge house which was such a treat! The past four years I have gone, we’ve had to get multiple smaller units next to each other, which was always fine, but it was so fun having all of Colton’s family in one house. Usually while we are there, we go out to eat almost every night, but I think because we enjoyed our house so much, we opted for making strawberry daiquiris and grilling at the house most of the time instead.

One of my favorite Destin traditions is waking up before sunrise to walk to the beach and watch the sun come up. It’s early, but’s so worth it! The beach is so calm, the weather is cool and the sites are beautiful. This is also Colton’s Dads favorite! I usually maybe make it once a trip, but he does it almost every morning.

Sunday was our best day at the beach by far! There was not a cloud in the sky and it had a nice cool breeze. Everyone from the group had finally arrived and it was seriously just the most fun day. Everyone was in such high spirits. It felt like we were finally in Destin. One thing that is super nice about where we stay, is that everyday there is a reserved area for us at the beach! We come out in the morning and all of our chairs and umbrellas are lined up perfectly. We hang out there all day, head up to the house to make sandwiches for lunch and then usually stay at the beach until the sun goes down. This little red one piece was by far my favorite swimsuit of the weekend! It was bright, it was comfortable and oh so flattering. I also love that it had that bay watch kind of feel to it!

Even though we did eat in most of the time, we did make appearances at a few of our favorite places! If you’re ever in the Destin area, you have to try Dewey Destin’s for the best fresh (& locally caught) seafood. It’s a hole in the wall but it’s so good! We also made it to Bochamps, which has a great happy hour and a fun bar scene along with our favorite breakfast at Harbor Docks.

We knew by Monday that our trip was going to be cut even shorter than we had all planned. We were already having to leave early, so it was so sad when the storms started rolling in Monday afternoon! We stayed at the beach, I swear until it was so bad that we were forced to leave. The funny thing is, it was fine earlier in the day, but around 3:00 it definitely got dark really fast! It was like we all looked at each other at one point and were like, “Welp…. I think it’s time to go!”. I will say though, before the rain started, the waves got really big, so I went in and took full advantage of the body surfing opportunity – which I never do, but it was so fun! Hence the crazy hair!

Monday night was my favorite night of all though. It was Colton’s Dads Birthday and after his Birthday dinner, Colton and I headed to SandDestin for the evening. If you’re ever in Destin, you have to make at least two trips to the Baytown Wharf Villages, which is in the heart of Sand Destin. The area is so cute, they have the best shops and the most fun bar scene. Our favorite thing in the world are the dueling piano players at Rum Runners in the evening. It is just like piano man, but better! I could’ve stayed there and sang along with them all night if Colton would’ve let me! We started going there in college, when we would go to Destin for spring break and it just never gets old!
Our last few Days, it rained terribly on us, but it was really cool to see the surf get so big! We would go out on the beach to watch it and it was crazy seeing the water like that.
Hopefully next year we will have better luck with the weather!
Have a great weekend loves!
xo,
Lauren
